Dehydrationĭehydration can be caused by a lack of water ingestion or excessive exercising without replenishment. The common treatments are: trimming and shaving of calluses, padding sneakers and shoes to alleviate some of the pressure created, orthotics, surgery. Calluses located on the bottom of your foot, if large enough, may result in pain and possibly cramps. Calluses will usually develop which is caused by a build-up of skin tissue due to high pressure areas of the shoe pushing against your foot. Also, wearing a high heel shoe or ice skate for example places your foot in an abnormal position. Wearing shoes which are too tight or too big can result in foot problems. Pain or cramping can occur upon walking after long periods of inactivity the pain will usually be located on the bottom part of the heel or arch secondary to strain of the plantar fascial ligament. People describe the pain associated with a neuroma as if they are “walking on a rock.” The most common location for a neuroma in your foot occurs between the 3 rd and 4 th toes: a nerve branch running between these two toes becomes pinched, known more specifically as a Morton’s neuroma, resulting in cramps and numbness. Treatment includes rest, ice, massaging your feet, elevating feet, stretching exercises, orthotics. Possible situations include people who work on their feet all day or athletes who constantly exercise with limited rest. When you overwork your feet and the muscles involved in the lower extremity, the muscles become contracted and tight and you are more prone to muscle fatigue. The most common causes of foot cramps include: muscle fatigue, a neuroma (pinched nerve), plantar fasciitis, improper shoe wear, dehydration (electrolyte imbalance) and vitamin deficiency. Depending upon the underlying etiology or cause of the disorder, you will experience varying symptoms. The pain may be sudden and sharp or constant and dull. There are many different causes of foot cramp pain.
